The History of the Stand By Me Station

Established on December 22, 2025, in “The City of Pineapples,” Barceloneta, Puerto Rico, the Stand By Me Station continues a powerful philatelic tradition of mental health advocacy. This temporary postal station, featuring the evocative artwork of local postal clerk and artist Erick Declet, was created to transform the traditional postmark into a vessel for social awareness.

The “Stand By Me” initiative was born from a desire to support those living with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)—including veterans, first responders, and survivors of the natural disasters that have shaped the resilience of the Puerto Rican spirit. By cancelling stamps with symbols of solidarity and hope, the Barceloneta Post Office sends a message that transcends geography: that the “weight” of trauma does not have to be carried alone.
