Penny Black Pane Background & 185th Anniversary: Día Mundial de la Filatelia (San Juan, PR)
Penny Black Pane Background & 185th Anniversary
Continuing the “Día Mundial de la Filatelia 2025” series on a #10 commercial cover, this design places the spotlight on a full multi-stamp pane background of the iconic Penny Black. Layered over the classic stamp grid are commemorative black and gold medallions celebrating the 185th anniversary of the world’s first adhesive postage stamp, combined with a stamp-shaped graphic of the San Juan, Puerto Rico flag.
Philatelic Design Notes
- Cachet Artwork: Features a repeating background pattern of Penny Black stamps. Overlaid on the left side are two focal elements: a top stamp-shaped banner featuring the flag of San Juan, PR with ribbon details and the text “SAN JUAN, PR”, and a prominent lower circular medallion in black and gold reading “DÍA MUNDIAL DE LA FILATELIA / 6 DE MAYO DE 2025” above a crowned crest and the title “PENNY BLACK / 185TH ANNIVERSARY / 1840”. Includes the TSL maker’s mark in the lower-right corner of the design block.
- Pictorial Cancellation: The official pictorial cancellation depicts a historic sentry box (garita) and reads “Día Mundial de la Filatelia / La Garita Station / May 6, 2025 / San Juan, Puerto Rico 00936”.
- Franking: Franked with a U.S. “Forever/USA” Shaker Design stamp depicting an interior room with a window and bench.
- Production Credits: Created as part of the TSL series (Bayamón, PR).
