🏛️ The Creative Spark & Objective
The USPS announced a pictorial postmark celebrating the anniversary of the society’s emblem adoption. My goal was to match the tactile weight of historical intaglio printing.
🤖 Stage 1: The Iteration Cycle with Gemini
We went through dozens of iterations. Early renders kept trying to introduce unwanted 3D drop shadows and camera tilts.
Here are some of the fascinating, highly-detailed concepts that didn’t make the cut but showcase beautiful cross-hatching and stippling parameters:
Key Prompt Used: “create a postal cachet design celebrating the 200th anniversary of Comerío, Puerto Rico. The town was originally called “Sabana del Palmar” and the exact date of the founding is June 12, 1826. Use a white background. Do not use simulated stamps, envelopes or postmarks. Do not include any label text like ‘Postal Cachet’—only include the historical text (Comerío, Puerto Rico, dates, etc.).“
🎨 Stage 2: Isolating Assets in paint.NET
Once Gemini produced a flawless central motif, I took it into paint.NET to:
- Erase the background noise and artifacts.
- Manually incorporate the clean municipal seals from the intersecting counties.
- Align the text borders perfectly to guarantee structural accuracy before printing onto the C10 envelopes.
